Last week I wrote about running with Jesus, this week I think I’m just crawling! I have to share with you some upsetting news. I am so sad to say that our new Minister of Christian Education, Susan Reed, has decided that ministry is not for her, and she has resigned immediately from our church. This is certainly shocking news –it took me by surprise –and honestly knocked the wind out of me. I’m sure you are probably reacting the same way.

This is going to be a quick Thursday’s Thoughts as I’m flying to Seattle today to attend our annual Evergreen Association Regional meeting. I will be representing Fairview at this meeting, voting on the business of the church, and fellowshipping with our fellow Baptist sisters and brothers up north!

I have to tell you that I’m still a little high from last Sunday’s service! When people are connected in Spirit –amazing things can happen. The whole energy of worship last week was just incredible. Have you noticed that our music just keeps getting better? I have. I loved the way Sean and I were in the Spirit together as we merged sermon and song into one experience – and all focused on our theme of Teaching Our Children Well. Since last week’s sermon was entitled just that –this week’s experience is entitled “Teach Your Parents Well” –and have we got a worship service planned for you!

September 17th, 2008 | posted by AdminHi Fairview Family,
If you were at church this past Sunday, you witnessed something quite out of the ordinary for us. While I have often thought that the day might come when we’d have protestors outside of our church, I was flabbergasted and quite honestly hurt by the picketers who joined us this past Sunday. If you weren’t in church….well you missed some excitement, but I’d say, consider yourself lucky. This occasion does, however, offer us a teaching moment.

It seems that the days have been long lately and yet the long days are indicative of all the activity happening here at Fairview Community Church! As I write to you, the wafting of melodies escape from the sanctuary as our band rehearses. The guitars are tuning up, the piano chimes in, and before you know it, the voices add to the richness, and they’re fully engaged in the music. It’s such a joy to be the recipient of my own private concert!

This has really been an amazing summer, and it culminated in last Sunday’s Labor Day Worship! As you know, we expect attendance our attendance to drop in the summer --lots of folks get caught up on vacations, or beach trips, or maybe fall into lazy summer Sundays –sleeping in and enjoying the sunshine. And we know that statistically Labor day never garners a crowd. Marge and I spoke before Sunday’s service and we both expected a light crowd –maybe even only a small group of 25. And yet, Fairview, as I told you on Sunday –You never cease to amaze me! We’ve had an incredible summer –with great attendance and record numbers of visitors! Wayne reported to me that this past Sunday, your last Sunday of summer, 70 people including children were in church! Now I know that might sound like a lot to mega churches –but a Labor Day Sunday with 70 people –at least ten of those 70 being kids –well that’s a reason to rejoice!
