JOB TITLE:                       Sunday School Coordinator
REPORTS TO:                   Senior Pastor
 
 
JOB SUMMARY
 
This is a multi-role position within our Christian Education program. This position supports the Children and Youth Christian Education Commission and interacts with our children and youth each Sunday. As Sunday School Coordinator, it provides assistance, leadership and supervision, including but not limited to, acting as the lead Sunday School teacher on Sunday mornings as well as assistance during the week with planning and preparation for our program.   The Sunday School Coordinator is responsible for the development and maintenance of ministries that nurture the spiritual growth of the infants, toddlers, children and youth of Fairview Community Church. The primary function of this position is to teach, provide oversight and management of the various educational, social and developmental activities, events and communications that comprise this ministry.
 
Under the general supervision of the Church Council, and under the guidance and direction of the Senior Pastor        Page 1    2/7/2008, the Sunday School Coordinator will be responsible for the following:
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
CHURCH SCHOOL (60%)
·         Select and maintain curriculum for weekly Church School, in consultation with the Senior Minister and the Board of Christian Education.
·         Recruit, train, and schedule teachers and substitute teachers with the support and help of the Children and Youth Christian Education Committee (CYCE)
·         Coordinate the schedule for the weekly program with the Sr. Pastor and the larger ministry calendar of the church.
·         Act as Lead Teacher of Sunday School program with the assistance of volunteer teachers and helpers.
·         Help with recruiting of volunteer teachers and support for our S.S. Program.
·         Provide general assistance and direction to S.S. teachers, nursery workers, children, youth and members of the congregation on Sunday mornings, to ensure that all activities and classes are running smoothly.
·         Ensure supplies and materials are ordered and maintained as needed for all Church School activities.
·         Weekly set up – clean up of Children’s Sunday School.
·         Coordinate and/or lead Children’s Time during worship service
 
 
NURSERY AND CHILDCARE (5%)
·         Schedule childcare and/or nursery staff for all church events requiring childcare, in consultation with Sr. Pastor and commission chairs.
 
GENERAL CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH MINISTRIES (25%)
·         Select and maintain curriculum for Vacation Church School, in consultation with the Senior Pastor and the CYCE.
·         Work with the Sr. Pastor and the CYCE and relevant commissions to plan and present special events involving the children and youth of the Church (including the All Church Retreat, and special worship services).
·         Coordinate planning and execution of monthly Fantastic Fridays with CYCE.
·         Develop and resource new programs for involving our children and youth within the wider community.
·         Identify needs and new programs for children and youth within Fairview Community Church.
 
ADMINISTRATION AND LOGISTICS (10%)
·         Attend weekly staff meetings and/or meeting with Sr. Pastor and CYCE commission meetings.
·         Attend workshop, seminars and other training to stay informed of new and effective ways to implement children and youth ministries.
·         In consultation with Sr. Pastor, create material for website, brochures, and information on Fairview’s Children’s program.
·         Implement Fairview Community Church’s Child Protection Policy (TBD)
·         Perform additional duties as required in support of children ministries and other Church programs.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Ability to pass a background clearance.
  • Member of UCC or ABC (or like-minded background) and able to be actively involved in the wider church life.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) skills, and the demonstrated ability to build constructive relationships with both adults and children.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience of developmental needs of children and youth.
  • Demonstrates own spiritual understanding that is consistent with Fairview Community Church’s theology and mission statement.
  • Physically fit to lift up to 30 pounds.

Preferred candidate will demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills appropriate to the responsibilities and demands of this position, including the ability to organize, motivate, and encourage others; independently plan and problem-solve; establish trust and maintain confidentiality.
 
JOB TIME REQUIREMENT:
·         7-10 hours a week
This includes approximately 3 hours on Sundays (Sunday School, set up, implementation, clean up) and approximately 4-7 hours during the week.
 
COMPENSATION

·         $12-17 an hour, commensurate with experience
