Jesus in the First
& Twenty-first Century
Robert J. Miller & James A. Veitch
LECTURE
The Search for the Historical Jesus
The gospels portray Jesus as the Messiah and divine savior. Within the gospels, however, we can glimpse another Jesus, the Jewish teacher and healer with a radical vision of the kingdom of God. The search for the historical Jesus examines the gospels in order to discover who Jesus was before he became the object of Christian belief.
Friday, 7:30–9 P.M.
WORKSHOPS
The Jesus of the First Century
The historical Jesus announced that God's kingdom was already here, not something coming in the future. He challenged others to join this kingdom and to celebrate its presence, without ignoring the harsh injustices forced on them by another kingdom, the Roman Empire, whose victim he became. Jesus' vision of the kingdom put him at odds with the official religion of his day and continues to pose a profound challenge to contemporary Christian theology.

The Jesus of the Twenty-first Century
