Thursday's Thoughts 02/29/2008

Hey There! Well, it’s a beautiful day –the kind of day when you wish you could play hooky and breathe in the fresh air and let the sunshine warm your body and quiet your mind!  These last few days have been gorgeous, haven’t they?  The warm weather, the clear skies, the star lit nights and the incredible big yellow moon!  I can see the snow topped mountains because there’s not a cloud in the sky!   This is the kind of day when you think, “Creation is Divine!”   As I consider this beautiful day, and how much I wish I were out there instead of inside typing away, I ponder the future, and pray that my children will have the experience of beautiful days like this, and that my grandchildren, and my great grandchildren will too!  As I consider our Green Lenten Project and look out doors, I realize just how important it is to be conscious of our decisions today for the future of creation tomorrow!   This Lenten practice of consciousness has impacted me and as I wrote in the Innovator article for next month, it has really been a unique Lenten experience.  Hope it has been for you as well!  Remember to come out next Wednesday at 7pm for a partnership between Adult Christian Education and the Missions Commissions presentation by Steve Spanier, “Ethical Consumption: Saving (the world) While you Spend.”    This will be a great opportunity for us to learn more about how we can buy what’s good for us, and what’s good for the environment!

I’m also pretty excited about Game Night at FCC!  Now, so often we have events that have real theological or social implications. This night has neither –but what it does stress is a real Fairview value:  FUN!  I recently heard an ordination sermon that focused on the need for fun in the church.  Fairview knows fun!  And this is our opportunity to just get together to play, laugh, eat a little, and enjoy each other’s company!  Come out for game night this Saturday evening.  The Nurture Commission will have all sorts of games for adults and kids too!  There will be childcare available as well.  So bring the whole family out for a night of relaxation and fun!

Check your Innovator, and show up this Sunday for an announcement from the Music Committee!  They’ve got something pretty exciting to share and they want you to be the first to hear it!  You have no idea how hard this committee has worked (unless of course you were on the pastoral search committee –then you’ve probably got a pretty good idea)  –meeting week after week—some of them for nearly 8 months. So, be sure to join us this Sunday to hear what they’ve got to say!

See you Saturday night for some fun and games and Sunday morning for worship!

The Wide, Wide World of Theology!

O
Christ,
paint us with your love
as you did with mud on the blind man’s eyes.

Remake us,
move
us

from bystanders to disciples,
from cowardice and fear
to spirited helpers,
bold lovers

from
darkness
to your clear light,

to
you

************

God of mystery, you have led us down this Lenten road.

We look to follow the rules,

But you tell us that your realm is beyond rules!

Like the blind who cannot see, we stumble, until you gift us with new vision.

Grant us new eyes that we may see, and the courage to act on the vision that comes before us!

Amen.
