Thursday's Thoughts 04/10/2008

Hiya Fairview and Friends! There are lots of exciting things happening at Fairview Community Church in the next couple of weeks!  First of all join us this evening in a potluck to meet and get to know Sean Burns our new music director!  We’ll break bread together, and communing with one another have an opportunity to build friendships with Sean and each other.  This will be a great opportunity to get folks together to dream about how to move forward with our music community and to get to know Sean, his talents, and his dreams!  Bring a little something to share! See you at 6:30pm!

Next Sunday is our BIG CELEBRATION!   So, I hope you’ll be here to join in the fun!  We’re so excited to open, welcome, and affirm each and every person that walks through our doors here at Fairview Community Church!  So, let’s show it with a party!  That’s what we’ll be doing next Sunday at 10am – partying together!   We have the privilege of welcoming to our pulpit the executive director of Progressive Christians Uniting, the Rev. Peter Laarman.  Rev. Laarman is an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ with standing in the American Baptist Churches, USA.   Before serving as the PCU executive director, he was the senior pastor at the well known Judson Memorial Church in New York.  What an honor it is to have him here with us!   Also celebrating with us are our Regional and Conference ministers of the ABC and UCC:  Rev. Dr. Marcia Patton, and Rev. Dr. Jane Fisler Hoffman!   In addition, there will be guests from the UCC Coalition, P-FLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), AIDS Services Foundation, California for Equality, and of course we hope to have media coverage as well!  So wear bright colors and invite your friends to celebrate with us!

The Wide, Wide World of Theology!

I take a moment to remember
and look forward to Sunday

I think of the place where I will worship on Sunday.
I recall its many aromas…
I feel myself within it...

I listen…
I look...

I see
the presider
the readers
the people around me

We will be together, before God, in our faith

************

Christ,
we go astray as sheep do.
But you show us what faithfulness looks like.
You hand yourself over to the insults and the suffering,

bearing our sins on your shoulders.

Please let us follow you,
not go astray.

Let us
be healed
by your wounds.

Amen.
