Hi Friends! It was great to see so many Mother’s on Sunday and so many women at women’s group who were came to learn about how to better take care of themselves! Mother’s day was a special day for me, because I had both my mom and my grandmother in church on Sunday –not to mention both of my siblings! I hope women everywhere had a wonderful day!
As I am writing these thoughts, I have received breaking news about marriage in CA. I tremble from joy as I write –this is a historic day for those of us that believe in equality! The supreme court in CA overturned a ruling that says that marriage is between a man and a woman only! As of this morning, all couples in love in the state of CA can get married! God recognizes love –and now the state does too! We will wait to see the legal ramifications – our own Karin Baker, who just passed the bar, is working with others to find out exactly what this means in legalize. But this is considered a huge victory for all of us who believe in equality for all people! God bless you Fairview, for being advocates for justice and lovers of God’s children! Allelluia!
This Sunday we are celebrating Pentecost. As we observe Pentecost we’ve been asked to enter into a sacred conversation about race. This is a sensitive topic, one that should be entered into prayerfully, honoring each of our brothers and sisters. As we remember the Pentecost story, we remember that Pentecost is a moment of enlightenment – a moment where once those who could not understand each other suddenly could! Let us pray that we’ll experience a Pentecostal moment –a moment where we will be able to speak and really hear one another.
Let’s celebrate together! See you on Sunday!

The Wide, Wide World of Theology!
Astonishing Creator,
at Pentecost,
you could have been
calm, cool, analytical -
but you decided to no
longer play it safe,
but once again
(and for all time),
unleashed the Spirit
into our babeling
and humble-jumble lives.
Like an artist using
a variety of mediums,
Living Water,
you proclaim good news to us:
to those who hunger for hope,
you feed them
from the banquet of justice;
to those parched by loneliness,
you hold that precious cup
overflowing with your tears
to their cracked lips.
Unbridled Spirit,
you calm us when
we are racing around
like four-year-olds
playing tag;
you come rushing
through our soul's backyard,
knocking our dirty lives
off the closed-lines,
to shawl us in
salvation's spring garb.

Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh upon us.
Remind us to listen.
Help us to understand.
Grant that your Spirit might bridge our differences
And helps us to finally speak the same language!
The language of peace.
Amen
